Bennitt Place where 80,000 Confederate Soldiers under General. Joseph Johnson surrendered to Major Gen. William T. Sherman. Bringing the Civil war to an end. It might be noted that General Robert E. Lee surrendered only 28,000 at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865. This took place in the latter part of April 27-29th 1865. (Photo taken from the News and Observer Paper and was taken by Chuck Liddy) today in Durham N.C. USA where the Bennitt Place is now a historical sight.See more
